Health and Social Care is an exciting, career focused subject which prepares you for a variety of future pathways in this area. It’s a career path which is in high demand.
In Health and Social Care, you will learn essential skills to flourish in the fast paced and rewarding world of several career paths including nursing, midwifery and early years teaching. You will learn the essential theory behind how to provide care, as well as having opportunities to put those skills into practice. Health and Social Care is an accessible subject but does delve into Biology, Psychology and Sociology, meaning the level of challenge is high.

Course Content
In Year 12, you will learn essential knowledge in order to work in this industry. You will learn about Human Development from infancy to later adulthood, the factors and events that affect it, and the health conditions associated with each life event. You will learn about body systems and their roles in keeping us healthy, and how common health conditions impact us physically. In Year 13, you will learn about the essential values and skills health and social care professionals must have, and understand how to promote healthcare education in order to improve public health.
Assessment
You will be assessed with traditional exams and non-examination assessments (NEAs) which can be completed at home and in lesson time.
The exams will be for Units 1 and 2 and be undertaken at the end of Year 12.
The NEAs will be for Units 3 and 5 and be undertaken in Year 13.
