ELECTIVES

As part of a sixth form students timetable we offer them the chance to take an Elective which is for one lesson a fortnight. Students can choose from the list of options below and change each term to try something different.  Please note there is limited space in each Elective, so we recommend that students complete the form as soon as possible with their preferred choice.  Once an Elective is full students will no longer be able to choose it.

Please note if they choose EPQ or Gold DofE, these are year long courses.  

Gold DofE:

• Navigation & Orientation: Map reading, compass work, and route planning
• Campcraft: Tent pitch-and-strike, camp hygiene, and equipment care
• Outdoor Skills & Teamwork: Team-building challenges, field games, and low-impact outdoor activities
• Practical Trekking: Route navigation and local off-site walks (e.g., Wendover Woods)
• Outdoor First Aid: Emergency response, casualty management, and trail safety

If you are thinking of signing up to Gold DofE this year, please select this option, although you don’t have to be doing the Award to join us.

YEAR 12 students can chose from the following options:

• Mixed Sports (Taking part in a range of Sports in the sports hall, astro, field and Netball courts)
• How to Build a Business (Generating and developing a business idea/product/service
• Board Games
• Art, Craft and Design
• Gold DofE (1 year course)

YEAR 13 students can chose from the following options:

• Mixed Sports (Taking part in a range of Sports in the sports hall, astro, field and Netball courts)
• Critical thinking (learning how to clarify your thinking by questioning, analysing, evaluating, interpreting and making a judgement)
• Documentary club
• Dance (Watch and recreate music videos. No dance experience required)
• LAMDA - Public speaking Qualification (1 Year course)

LAMDA 

Throughout the course of these sessions students will build speech writing and delivery skills.  They are preparing for an in person examination in the Spring which will assess their projection, modulation and vocabulary choices within a given framework.  They will write and deliver a range of speeches and 'think on their feet' composing impromptu speeches in just 15 minutes!  It is fun and builds confidence and resilience and quick thinking.

EPQ

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a research based project students are able to undertake in Year 12.  They will develop a wide range of skills including research, academic writing and project management.  The students will undertake a big piece of research that results in either a 5000 word essay/dissertation or an artefact.  It is a fabulous way for students to investigate a topic they are interested in outside of their core studies and really take ownership of the process supported by a member of staff. 

Results for January 2026 at 100% A-C:

• 47% achieving a A
• 27% achieving a B
• 26% achieving a C

However, it is important to note that this is marked against external assessment objectives and grade boundaries can change.
