Pastoral Care

At Tring School, we believe every student thrives when they feel supported, valued and understood.  Our dedicated pastoral team creates a safe, inclusive and caring environment where students are encouraged to grow in confidence, build resilience and achieve their full potential - both academically and personally.

We are proud of our strong reputation for providing exceptional care and guidance, ensuring that every young person feels they belong and has the support they need to succeed.

To strengthen the care and guidance available across our school, we have created three dedicated teams with complementary roles.  This structure will help ensure every student can access the right support at the right time. This new structure will ensure that student achievement is recognised and celebrated more consistently, while those requiring additional support receive timely intervention from staff with the expertise and capacity to help. At the same time, a dedicated behaviour team will help maintain a calm, fair, and focused learning environment for all.

Student Engagement Team

Led by Mrs Lucy Williams | Deputy HeadteacherMrs Patricia du Bois | Assistant Headteacher and Miss Charlotte Mills | Student Engagement Leader

The Student Engagement Team will focus on academic progress, identifying and removing barriers to learning within school and celebrating success.

Mrs Mills will work closely with the House Leaders and Tutors to monitor and celebrate the progress, engagement and attendance of all students. The Pastoral Leaders will be there to work with students who need a little bit more help and support in order to thrive.

Tutors

Form Tutors play a central role in supporting students.  They see students daily during Tutor Time and lead a variety of activities to help develop their pastoral wellbeing and development as a confident individual and well rounded member of our community and will remain the first point of contact for both students and parents.  Most pastoral matters will be managed and resolved through the tutor team, ensuring students receive timely and consistent support.  Should you need to contact the school with any questions or concerns, please contact your child's Form Tutor in the first instance (initialsurname@tring.school).

House Leaders

Our House Leaders will promote a sense of fun, belonging, and healthy competition. You can expect even more opportunities for students to participate, showcase their talents, and contribute to the vibrant life of our school community.

Pastoral Leaders

We recognise that some students face greater internal school barriers to achieving and maximising their potential. Our dedicated Pastoral Leaders, Mrs Mangan, Miss Fillmore & Ms Stefan (Sixth Form) will work closely with individual students to help remove barriers to learning and enable them to thrive both academically and personally.

Family Support Team

Led by Mr Dan Griggs | Deputy Headteacher and Miss Ellie-Maye Gosling | Safeguarding Leader

The Family Support Team will work to support families to overcome barriers to learning that exist beyond the school gates.  When students face more complex personal or external challenges, they will be referred to this specialist team, led by Mr Griggs and Miss Gosling and supported by Mrs Langdon and Mr Lovell.  This ensures that families receive compassionate, personalised support from staff with expertise in wellbeing and student welfare.

Please visit our Mental Health Support, Support & Signposting and Safeguarding pages.

Sixth Form Team

Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form students will continue to benefit from the outstanding academic guidance and pastoral care that are at the heart of our Sixth Form.  Mr Holmes and the wider Sixth Form team will help students achieve their academic potential while ensuring they receive high-quality pastoral support throughout their time with us.

The pastoral programme in the Sixth Form is geared towards the needs of young adults and covers issues such as study skills, preparation for university, citizenship and time management along with safe driving, fire safety, living away from home, sexual consent and drugs awareness talks.

We operate an open door policy giving students access to guidance and support when needed.

Behaviour Team

Led by Mrs Patricia du Bois | Assistant Headteacher and Mrs Sam Moore | Behaviour Leader

As part of our commitment to providing the best possible learning environment, behaviour support will now be managed by a dedicated team. Led by Mrs Moore, alongside Behaviour Welfare Officers Mr Deller and Miss Bicknell, this team will ensure that behaviour matters are addressed efficiently and consistently, allowing pastoral and wellbeing teams to focus on their specialist areas of expertise.

SEND

We understand that parents and carers of students with SEND place great trust in us to understand and meet their child's individual needs.

Please be assured that our Pastoral Team will continue to work closely alongside the SEND Department to provide coordinated and personalised support.  By sharing information, monitoring progress and responding quickly to concerns, we will ensure that every SEND student feels safe, understood, and able to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.

Please visit our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities page.

Inclusion Centre

We have a designated Inclusion Centre to aid students who struggle to attend school due to mental or physical illness.

Medical

First aiders in school are trained to assess which steps should be taken should an accident occur or when a pupil is unwell.

First aid treatment may be given for cuts, abrasions and suspected broken limbs.  If necessary, hospitals will be contacted and where possible, parents telephoned, though it may be necessary to carry out emergency measures before this is possible.

If we have a completed parental/carer consent in place, we will give students paracetamol for minor conditions such as headaches.  By giving your consent, you are giving your permission for the school to act on your behalf in administering pain relief and accept that we will do so without contacting you first.
