Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)

Welcome to the DofE hub. Whether you are navigating the peaks of the Peak District or the sections of your eDofE profile, you’ll find everything you need here.

The DofE is a non-competitive, internationally recognised Award that develops resilience, confidence, and teamwork. At Tring School, we offer three levels:

  • Bronze | Year 9
  • Silver | Years 10 & 11
  • Gold | Years 12 & 13

DofE Seasonal Roadmap

Autumn Term: Launch and Logistics

  • September: Recruitment assemblies and Parent/ Carer information evenings. Deposits are collected to secure places
  • October: eDofE registration workshops (Bronze & Silver after school sessions; Gold students complete this in their elective slot)
  • November: Section support sessions to ensure Physical, Skill, and Volunteering activities are approved (Bronze & Silver after school sessions; Gold students complete this in their elective slot)
  • December: Parent/ Carer and student kit meeting for all levels. A vital session for parents to understand equipment requirements, as well as an update on how students are getting on with their sections. Soft deadline to get all x3 sections approved by a School Leader on eDofE

Spring Term: The Training Phase

January to March: Training sessions covering the below topics (Bronze & Silver x3 monthly after school sessions; Gold students complete this in their elective)

  • Tents and Trangia safety
  • First Aid and the Countryside Code
  • Menu planning and nutrition

Note on Attendance: These sessions are mandatory for safety. A first absence triggers a courtesy email; a second absence requires a phone call home to discuss suitability for the expedition.

Summer Term: Expeditions & Celebration

  • April: Bronze pre-expedition meeting and medical form collection
  • May: Bronze Training Day (Friday) and Qualifying Expedition (Sat–Sun) - Chiltern Hills. Following this Bronze students will have one more in-school meeting with their School Leader to help them get remaining sections completed
  • June: Silver/ Gold pre-expedition meeting and medical form collection, and Silver Practice expedition - South Downs. Any Gold students from previous years who have completed their Award will also be invited to Buckingham Palace!
  • July: Silver review meeting and Qualifying Expedition - Peak District -  alongside Gold Practice Expedition - Yorkshire Moors. We also hold our annual Celebration Breakfast to Award certificates for completed sections and full awards
  • August: Gold Qualifying Expedition (Eyri). Gold students also need to complete a fifth section - the residential - to achieve their Award. Although supported, this needs to be independently organised and involve staying away from home with unfamiliar people for 5 days and 4 nights with a common goal.
