Safeguarding & e-Safety
One of the aims of Tring School is to ensure students have the opportunity to learn in supportive, caring and safe environment, where students feel that they are listened to and taken seriously.
Tring School follows the procedures established by the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board – a guide to procedure and practice for all professional staff in Hertfordshire who work with children.
All school staff and volunteers are particularly well placed to observe outward signs of abuse, changes in behaviour and failure to develop because they have daily contact with children.
In our ever changing world, there are different challenges and pressures for families in their everyday life. New technologies, a greater diversity in our society and increased media coverage, have brought new challenges to safeguarding procedures in schools. There is a greater need for staff to be aware of areas such as; grooming, radicalisation, extremism, forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), without forgetting about the more “traditional” forms of abuse.
Tring School is aware of the important role the school has in the early recognition of the signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and the appropriate referral process.
To promote a safe environment for students, our selection and recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers’ suitability, including Disclosure and Barring Service checks, as recommended by Hertfordshire County Council in accordance with current legislation.
Mr Nigel Barlow is the DSP (Designated Senior Person) for Safeguarding. He will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns parents/carers may have about Child Protection Policies and Practice. If Mr Barlow is not available the next points of contact are our Deputy DSPs - Mrs Lucy Williams and Mr Chris Lickfold.
Visitors & Supply Staff
Please take a few moments to read the Safeguarding Leaflet in the folder at the bottom of this page. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our young people and this requires all staff and visitors to share this commitment. Contained in this leaflet is information about our child protection procedures and guidance on what you should do if you have any concerns.
Ofsted Report May 2023
"The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
All required staff recruitment checks are made and recorded accurately. Any allegations made are handled swiftly and appropriately.
Training for safeguarding leaders and for staff generally is regular, reflecting up-to-date government guidance. Staff have sound knowledge of the signs of concern. They know what to do and how to report concerns when they have them. Pupils and students also have good knowledge of how to report concerns and access help when required. They have confidence in the support and help offered by adults at the school. Where necessary, leaders are quick to refer concerns to, and seek support from, external agencies and bodies."
Protecting all God's Children - the Policy for Safeguarding Children in the Church of England
"Every person has a value and dignity which comes directly from the creation of male and female in God’s own image and likeness. Christians see this potential as fulfilled by God’s re-creation of us in Christ. Among other things this implies a duty to value all people as bearing the image of God and therefore to protect them from harm."
School Commitment
Tring School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students. As a school community, we are aware that safeguarding incidents could occur anywhere and at any time. Staff should be vigilant and alert to any possible concerns and raise their concerns in line with school policy. Each student’s welfare is of paramount importance. We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse. We recognise that children who are abused or neglected may find it difficult to develop a sense of self worth and to view the world in a positive way. Whilst at school, their behaviour may be challenging. We recognise that some children who have experienced abuse may harm others. We will always take a considered and sensitive approach in order that we can support all of our students.
