Build A Racing Car

This project is a fantastic way to inspire young people to take part in hands on engineering projects, building on mechanical, electrical and aerodynamic skills. Open to all years including new Year 7’s, launching in September 2015.

Design & Build
Teams can design and build their own car incorporating the standardised motor and batteries and to set regulations or purchase a fully compliant kit car from Greenpower.

Following the design and build of their car teams take part in regional races with the aim of reaching the qualifying distance for the prestigious 75 car National Final in 90 minutes on one set of batteries. Each race day consists of a practice session and two races including the Top Gear race track and Goodwood.

As well as trophies for the top three finishers in each race awards are presented for Best Engineered Car, Siemens Innovation, Siemens Engineering & Design Award, Portfolio Award, Spirit of Greenpower, Best Presented Team and Best Newcomer.

The project is ideally suited to teaching of STEM subjects at Key Stage 3.
