This course is an ideal introduction for pupils who are considering studying courses in Work Skills, Construction or Catering at Key Stage 4.
What will my child be studying?
Pupils will learn how to safely use a variety of workshop tools and equipment through focused practical activities. This course is an ideal introduction for pupils who are considering studying courses in Work Skills, Construction or Catering at Key Stage 4.
What will be made?
Practical tasks vary each year but have previously included Chinese puzzles, maze games, docking stations for MP3 players, gaming racks and printed mugs. Pupils will also have the opportunity to learn a range of sketching techniques and make pop-up cards.
How is the course assessed?
The Course will be assessed using the BTEC grading system of pass, merit and distinction levels.
Is there an examination?
There is an exam taken at the end of the year. This will enable students to demonstrate through writing and drawing, their knowledge and understanding of D&T.
What equipment should my child have?
All students should have pencils and coloured pencils for design work (we do not endorse the use of felt tip pens) as well as pens for their written work.
How can I support my child’s learning?
Please ensure that homework tasks are completed as they will often be essential for the following lesson.
