Also Higher Ideas – an extremely helpful program available
via the school intranet to help with Year 11 ‘A’ level and Year 12 Higher Education choices.
When considering GCSE choices keep in mind that a few universities require a Language GCSE as part of their entry requirements, either for certain courses, e.g. American Studies at Warwick University, or as a general entry requirement, e.g. Oxford and Cambridge Universities. This is regardless of whether the student wants to study a Language at degree level. Entry requirements do change from year to year, however. You can check out the latest requirements from the UCAS website.

University admission tests
A number of Universities in certain subject areas now require students to take an admission test prior to interview or making an offer. Links to these admission tests appear below. It is very important that students check out the entry requirements for the subjects for which they are applying and ensure that any admission test is completed either in school or at a separate test centre on the dates indicated. They must check with Mr Freeman, the Examinations Officer, that they are registered for any test to be taken in school

University taster courses and open days
Students in Year 12 are encouraged to attend Taster Courses and Open Days to help decide on their choice of course and university. Some Open Days need to be booked and taster courses may well have a cost. Most Open Days take pace from June onwards. Many university departments have their own taster days which may be free. It is the student's responsibility to book and make travel arrangements for any of these. |
