Thinking about 14 - 19 choices?

The ‘Job Explorer Database’ is available on the school intranet to help you explore possible careers. This is a very user friendly Job encyclopaedia.

Also Higher Ideas – an extremely helpful program available via the school intranet to help with Year 11 ‘A’ level and Year 12 Higher Education choices.

When considering GCSE choices keep in mind that a few universities require a Language GCSE as part of their entry requirements, either for certain courses, e.g. American Studies at Warwick University, or as a general entry requirement, e.g. Oxford and Cambridge Universities.  This is regardless of whether the student wants to study a Language at degree level. Entry requirements do change from year to year, however.  You can check out the latest requirements from the UCAS website.

University admission tests

A number of Universities in certain subject areas now require students to take an admission test prior to interview or making an offer.  Links to these admission tests appear below.  It is very important that students check out the entry requirements for the subjects for which they are applying and ensure that any admission test is completed either in school or at a separate test centre on the dates indicated.  They must check with Mr Freeman, the Examinations Officer, that they are registered for any test to be taken in school

University taster courses and open days

Students in Year 12 are encouraged to attend Taster Courses and Open Days to help decide on their choice of course and university.  Some Open Days need to be booked and taster courses may well have a cost.  Most Open Days take pace from June onwards.  Many university departments have their own taster days which may be free.  It is the student's responsibility to book and make travel arrangements for any of these. 

UCAS events UCAS organise many events to help you make the right decision when choosing a university or college. These include conventions and subject-specific exhibitions to give you the opportunity to speak to representatives from universities and colleges who can help you to make an informed decision about what and where to study.

The PreLaw Course Offer a one day legal careers course, comprising of presentations and interactive workshops by qualified Solicitors and Barristers. The aim of the course is to educate and inform students who may be considering a career in law. Courses are held in August, December & April of each year, at Imperial College, London, SW7.
The PreMed Course Offer a one day medical careers course run by a team of experienced Doctors. Courses held in April, August & December, at Imperial College, London.
University of London The London Taster Course Programme provides students looking towards attending university the opportunity to experience life as a university student, in the subject area of their choice.
Workshop conferences Offer careers and 'A' level based courses for young people. The courses are held at Universities and involve the delegates staying in Halls of Residence for at least one night. There is a charge for all courses.
