21st July 2017
You may recall that I wrote to you in May explaining that Tring School would be converting to a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) this summer. We have been notified this week that the Regional Schools Commissioner has now approved our application to become a MAT which will be known as The Ridgeway Learning Partnership. Any individual school joining the MAT will retain its own name and we will therefore still be Tring School.
I have been Chair of Governors of Tring School for six years now, and feel that the time is right to hand over the stewardship to another Governor. Mr David Benson has agreed to take on this role and was last week confirmed by the Governing Body as the new Chair from 1 September 2017. Mr Benson is experienced in the education sector and prior to joining Tring School was a Governor at a secondary school in a London Borough for several years.
I am immensely proud of Tring School and all its fantastic hard-working staff and students and know that the young people of Tring will continue to flourish.
I am not cutting my ties with the school as I am becoming a Trustee of the Ridgeway Learning Partnership. I am pleased to be able to tell you that we have brought together a very talented group of people to oversee the new MAT and they all have strong connections to the Tring area. These roles are all voluntary ones and we are very grateful for the time that will be given in support of our local schools. I thought that you would like some information about the people who will become the Members (who set the ethos of the MAT and appoint the Trustees) and Trustees (who are effectively the Board of Directors) of our MAT:
Jon Reynolds – Former Director of Education at The Diocese of St Albans. Had four children go through Tring School. Lives locally.
Julia Trueman – Former Headteacher of Tring School. School Improvement Partner at both primary and secondary level. Lives locally.
Hilary Aldridge – Former pupil at the school. Has a legal background and became Chief Executive at Fera Science which is owned by Capita and Defra.
Pete Kemp – Owner of a very successful furniture business in Pitstone. Has three children who have been through the school and a fourth who is still here. Lives locally.
Janis Donald (ex officio as Chair of the Trustees) – Retiring Chair of Governors at Tring School. Has two children who attended the school. Lives locally.
Julian Crane – Current Chair of Governors at Grove Road School. Head of Audit and Risk at NGA Human Resources (a £500m turnover company). Lives locally.
Vivek Dev – Ex Chief Executive Officer of O2 Telefonica. Had one child who attended Tring School. Lives locally.
Janis Donald – As above
Alastair Durno – Departmental head at GL Assessment, school governor since 2012 (Chair of a committee at Tring School), has one child at the school and one former student of the school. Lives locally.
Vicky Edwards – Governor at Grove Road School, Chief People Officer (HR) at Grass Roots. Lives locally.
Matthew Gibbs – Founder of DB9 Ltd, a London based planning company. Former Deputy Head Boy of Tring School. Lives locally.
Jo Passingham – Finance Director of The Prince’s Trust. Governor at Grove Road School. Has two children at Tring School. Lives locally.
Sue Wheatley – Former Chief Inspector in the police force. Governor at Tring School for over 5 years. One child who went to Tring School. Lives locally.
Chief Executive Officer – still to be appointed and an ex officio Trustee.
You will see that we have gathered together a broad range of skills and experience and we believe that this is an incredibly strong starting position for the Ridgeway Learning Partnership.
Our MAT has also been approved by the Diocesan Board of Education and they have worked hard with us to ensure that the individual ethos of all schools that might join the MAT are protected. We are very proud of our church and community schools in the town and we are creating an opportunity to strengthen the partnerships as we move forward.
Thank you for your continued support of Tring School and I hope that you all have an enjoyable summer break.
